I decided recently I wanted to spend more of my free time gaming. I've not had much time for gaming over the last
few years. My good friend Tony invited me to join his regular Monday night gaming group and this is what led to the 
accidental discovery of my latest favourite indie game addiction: [Breakpoint](https://store.steampowered.com/app/1273250/Breakpoint/).

I've been picking up more indie games ever since I bought my Steam Deck because it's great to be able to instantly pick
up and jump into a game, play for 10 or 20 mins and then put it away again. If I ever leave the house and I know I'm 
going to be waiting around or travelling the Steam Deck usually with me. 

So what is Breakpoint? 

> Breakpoint is a twin-stick slasher where your weapons explode. Break through the swarm to claim your spot on the online leaderboard.

It sounded like a perfect Steam Deck game for me to play. It started slow, I'd play a few quick games, usually dying 
within minutes and giving up and moving on with my day. Over the next few weeks or so I started to survive a little 
longer and get a slightly higher score. 

Then I started to play the game more and more. Even in the house I would pick up the Steam Deck and play it in the kitchen 
when I was cooking. Or in bed at night before I went to sleep. The scores kept getting higher and higher. The addiction 
was growing and growing. Next I installed it on my gaming PC as well, where I'd find myself playing it whilst watching 
a podcast. I've owned this game since June and today I've just passed the 17 hours played mark. For a game that I was
meant to pick up and play for a couple of minutes here and there that's pretty crazy!

The game is incredible. It's super simple. It has a single game mode. You are just a triangle ship in a square room, and 
you have to survive 12 different types of enemies by hacking and slashing with hammers, swords, axes etc. It gets 
intense quickly. My current highest score is 390,725 which I achieved this morning, but I still regularly play games 
where I lose all 3 lives with under 5000 scored.    

The best part is there is a global scoreboard to see where you place amongst the rest of the players, and you can 
choose to watch a full replay of any game on the scoreboard (however I think some of the people at the very top have 
cheated because the replays just show them dying quickly with billions on the board afterward!?).

I am desperately chasing a million+ score now. It's within reach I'm sure just a few more games! 

This right here sums up my final thoughts about this game. It's the digital gaming version of crack!
