## Have you been annoyed by YouTube Shorts? 

I'm not sure when it happened but at some point over the last few years Big Tech companies decided that being original 
and different was no longer important. As each different Big Tech company launches a new product or feature it's usually
about 2 weeks before every other platform has launched an identical copy of said feature.

YouTube has recently done this, copying Tik-Tok to launch YouTube #shorts. 

Now I wouldn't necessarily mind this, sure offer people a choice do they want long videos or short videos? I suspect most
kids these days would opt for the short version being that we've successfully eroded their concentration spans to about 
20 seconds at best. But I'm 40. I'm old school and made of sterner stuff. I actually still quite enjoy long form video. 
Not to brag, but I can actually still read long form articles and even books! 

So what is my issue with YouTube launching #shorts?  

The problem is there is no option to opt-out of this feature. If you're like me, you will have a big list of channel 
subscriptions which you'll regularly look at to view the latest uploads to choose something to watch next. You can't
easily do this anymore as the subscriptions list is now littered with junk #shorts video clips and it sucks.

Thankfully I've found a work-around.

If you use a browser extension called uBlock Origin (if you don't you really should) you can add filters to remove YouTube #shorts.
To update your filters go to the uBlock Origin Preferences and click the My Filters tab, and then paste in the following:

Once you've added these simply refresh YouTube and you'll see that both the #shorts menu option has now gone, and if you 
view your channel subscriptions you'll no longer see #shorts! 

I wish we didn't have to do this, YouTube should offer a simply toggle option to turn #shorts on or off but it is what
it is. At least we can turn it off ourselves!
